Creating Music with FINALE and LOGIC Pro

As you may have heard by now, MakeMusic has announced that they will discontinue Finale!

The king is dead, long live the king! I say.

My tip for all Finale users

It is time for all us Finale users to make the switch to a new and much better software solution. If you are a professional who needs lots of options when it comes to using notation, like customization of the loo and interface, fast ways to input music, and an interphase that looks fresh and supports all the new operating systems and computers out there, there is only one choice for you. It is DORICO by Steinberg.

Keep a copy of Finale on your old computer!

I have been using Finale for almost 25 years. I did all my professional work with it. Because of it, I will make sure that I keep it running on my old iMac so that I can always revive my old files if I have to. I am talking about big scores, like symphonic works and jazz big band arrangements. This iMac will probably die with me.

Musescore, no Sir!

Musescore is free, but doesn’t even come close to Dorico. And I have always been suspicious of free software. There’s a good chance that at some point you will have to pay for it.

Having said that, it might be just fine for people that do not need all the belts and whistles of a professional program.

About the future of this website

I am planning on posting links to my favorite Dorico resources, and may make even my own video tutorials on it, especially for Finale uses that want to transfer. for the time being though, I will leave all the finale tips up on this website for those of you that still want to stick with Finale for a while longer.
